Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park
Fine-grained,
white sand beaches joined by mangrove forests and tidal creeks create
a nature lovers paradise at Delnor-Wiggins Pass. This 166-acre state
park features beaches lined with sea oats and cabbage palms, along
with woodland trails and wonderfully shaded picnic areas. Five parking
areas allow for plentiful access to the beach, though it does fill
in the winter months. Bathhouses with changing stalls and outdoor
showers are located at each parking area. A boardwalk leads out
to the pass, offering a grand view of the waterway as well as a
great place to fish.
Behind the
secondary dunes, acres of oak and palm hammock provide a shady respite
and very nice picnic areas. Several hiking trails lead through the
woodland area, and one of the trails feature an observation tower
that allows the visitor a birds-eye view of the natural splendor
of the area. A boat launch provides access to the back bays, Cocohatchee
River, and the Gulf of Mexico. Excellent saltwater fishing opportunities
can be had both in the waterways and allow the beach by Wiggins
Pass. |
